The Maltese
Classified as a lap dog, the Maltese is a very ancient breed. It has been around since Roman times, when noble women kept it for its beauty and extreme intelligence. Statuettes of this breed were found in the tomb of Ramses II, who reigned between 1278 BC and 1213 BC.
The Maltese is white with a very thick coat (usually). The eyes are typically medium-sized and somewhat smaller than the nose, the ears are triangular in shape. The legs are medium-sized, and the tail is often rounded forward. The colour also allows for a pale ivory shade and some champagne nuances.
The temperament of the Maltese is generally playful, affectionate, lively, docile, courageous, intelligent, responsive, gentle, placid, accommodating and active.
The Maltese is very cheerful and makes an excellent pet. It becomes very attached to the person it has chosen as its master and will always try to be near to them. It is also gifted with a great capacity for learning and is very attentive. These characteristics make it an excellent watchdog, alert to even the slightest noise. It is also strong and sturdy despite looking fragile.
